Booboo (???? - 2007)
Booboo was already a fully grown cat when he turned up on our doorstep one spring afternoon, nine years ago.
Looking up at us with large melting eyes, it would have taken the coldest of hearts to shoo him away. From the day he joined our family, he had become my firm favourite (we have four cats left now) and in those rare moments whenever I would lie on the sofa to watch TV, especially in winter, he would jump up and cuddle up or sprawl himself on my tummy.
The past years hadn’t been so kind to Booboo. About four years ago he got badly hit by a car, fortunately he survived but he damaged his back which meant that his tail was completely dead – it just hung limp and had no feeling in it. This lead to some hilarious moments, especially when Taz (the German shepherd I had some years ago) decided to grab him from it. There were some worrying moments too, like when he jumped next to the cooker and nearly burnt it off!
Recently, Booboo had a bit of an eating problem making him look very skinny and one could actually count the bones on his ribcage. However, his eyes would light up every time he smelt chicken – whether it was cooked or raw!
This morning, before I left for work, he was lying down in a wicker basket, looking very weak but his eyes still showed an eager response when I called out his name.
Now Booboo is no more….. He died peacefully in our garden early in the afternoon. He will always be remembered and sorely missed...
